I guess I wasn't clear enough about the point being about the
comparison with the girl who wasn't there and wasn't mentioned.

Emeraude is aware that she must control her emotions in order to
preserve the stability of the world and so only manages to make
herself miserable and in the end fails miserably.

Haruhi is in the same boat, but is exactly the opposite in every way.
