"Screwed up" HOW, pray tell? The Uzu no Kuni thing isn't THAT far-fetched...

I don't think there's a seal that can be branded into someone that can never
be removed...not even the seal imprisoning Kyuubi.

Granted, the Hyuuga branch family seal is rather more invasive even than
THAT, but I seriously doubt it's unremovable.

Clan politics. If Neji were to marry Hanabi, Hanabi would not be the clan
head--*he* would. In order to install him as the head of the main family, he
would HAVE to have the seal removed so he would be able to display his bare
forehead.

Under most circumstances, I would agree with this. However, there are
numerous reasons to do it the other way in this case. Neji would go along
with either path, of course. I think, though, that if nobody else, Hiashi
would insist on Neji being unsealed and made the official clan head, for two
reasons:

1. To repay his debt to Hizashi in full.
2. Because Neji IS the current living pinnacle of the Hyuuga. Having him
remain sealed even while married to a main family member would...probably
not do much for the clan's image in the eyes of their peers.

No, I'm pretty sure if Neji got forced into a marriage with Hanabi, his seal
would come OFF, and Hinata would be branded in his stead.

Right. It's like disowning a princess and then keeping her locked in a tower
instead of throwing her out on her ass.

Allowing her to live her life the way she wants, for the most part, free of
the burdens of shame and failure and clan politics. Like I said, it'd be the
kindest thing the clan could do to her at this point.
